Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc completed 623 km for Ferrari during Pirelli’s 2027 tyre development test at Imola on Tuesday.
Hamilton drove the SF-26 during the morning session and completed 64 laps, equivalent to 314 km, with a best time of 1:19.485. Leclerc took over in the afternoon, adding 63 laps and 309 km while setting the day’s faster Ferrari time of 1:18.832.
The lap times have little competitive significance because Pirelli’s programme was focused on tyre development rather than outright performance.
Ferrari tested prototypes from the three softest compounds in the development range — C3, C4 and C5. Both drivers initially completed five-lap performance runs with different versions of each compound before Pirelli selected the preferred solutions for longer stints.
Conditions were particularly hot at Imola, with track temperatures reaching 50°C and ambient temperature peaking at 32°C.
The Pirelli programme ran alongside Ferrari’s other activity at the circuit. Rafael Câmara also drove the 2025 SF-25 at Imola as the Ferrari junior continues preparations ahead of a possible opportunity with Haas in 2027.
Testing continues on Wednesday. Ferrari reserve driver Antonio Giovinazzi will take over the SF-26, while Racing Bulls joins the programme with Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad sharing driving duties.
Pirelli is using dedicated testing with Formula 1 teams to develop its tyre range for next season, with the Imola running providing another opportunity to compare prototype constructions and compounds under representative F1 loads.
