Zdeněk Chovanec, considered one of motorsport’s rising talents in Portugal, passed away last Sunday (18). Born in Venezuela with Czech heritage, the 21-year-old driver raced under the Portuguese flag and competed in three Formula 3 rounds in 2021. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

Chovanec spent a significant portion of his youth in Portugal and chose to race under a Portuguese racing license throughout much of his career. His journey in motorsport began in karting back in 2018. Two years later, he made the transition to single-seaters, competing in both the Italian F4 and F4 UAE Championships.

In 2021, he also took part in the Euroformula Open Championship and, during the latter part of the season, drove for Charouz Racing System across the final three rounds of the FIA Formula 3 Championship in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Russia.

In 2023, he pivoted his career toward endurance racing, competing in the Ultimate Cup Series and conducting testing sessions behind the wheel of a Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo in the GT World Challenge Europe. The driver’s family has not released details regarding the cause of death.
