Álex Márquez dictated the pace and topped FP1 for the MotoGP British Grand Prix this Friday (7) at Silverstone. The Gresini rider set a 1m58.692s lap to end the session just 0.173s ahead of Marco Bezzecchi, securing top spot on the weekend’s initial timesheet.

Bezzecchi, Pedro Acosta, Raúl Fernández, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Marc Márquez, Ai Ogura, Jorge Martín, Franco Morbidelli, and Francesco Bagnaia rounded out the top 10 in the premier class’s opening action on British soil.

MotoGP action continues from August 7 to 9 with the British GP, the 12th round of the 2026 season. GRANDE PRÊMIO will cover all the track action throughout the weekend, as well as the support categories in the World Championship.

How MotoGP FP1 unfolded at Silverstone:

Friday practice kicked off under dry conditions with partial cloud cover at Silverstone. Ambient temperatures registered 19°C at the start of the session, with track temperatures at 33°C, accompanied by light winds of 7 km/h and 45% humidity.

Confirmed absentees for the weekend include Gresini’s Fermín Aldeguer and LCR’s Johann Zarco. The Spaniard remains sidelined following a crash at Assen and is replaced by Iker Lecuona, while the Frenchman remains out of action, making way once again for Cal Crutchlow.

As the pit lane light turned green, riders headed out for the 45-minute session. Fresh off a contract renewal with Trackhouse, Raúl Fernández took an early lead with a 1m59.867s inside the first ten minutes, before being displaced by Álex Márquez, who lowered the benchmark to 1m59.408s.

Shortly after, the Aprilia duo took charge at the top, with Jorge Martín posting a 1m59.372s and Marco Bezzecchi slotting in right behind on a 1m59.408s. However, Álex responded forcefully, becoming the first rider to break into the 1m58s bracket at Silverstone to reclaim top spot with a 1m58.692s.

Moreira used the session to gather his first impressions aboard 1000cc machinery at Silverstone, holding 12th position with a 2m00.369s lap behind the factory Honda pairing of Joan Mir and Luca Marini.

With 19 minutes remaining in FP1, MotoGP recorded its first crash of the weekend. Holding the eighth-fastest time, Pedro Acosta lost the front of his RC16 on entry to Turn 15 and slid into the gravel trap.

Álex remained untargeted at the front into the final 15 minutes at Silverstone, though Bezzecchi closed in on the Aprilia RS-GP, coming within just 0.173s of the benchmark.

Following a final run through the pit lane, riders made last-minute setup adjustments and returned to the circuit for the final 10 minutes.

Despite late efforts across the field, Álex Márquez’s lap time held firm as the benchmark and went unbeaten in the opening session at the British venue. Bezzecchi, Acosta, Fernández, and Di Giannantonio completed the top five in FP1.
