News Summary

Jorge Martín believes that, while important, leading the MotoGP championship at this stage of the season is neither a priority nor a decisive factor. The Aprilia rider holds a 19-point advantage over Marc Márquez in the standings heading into the San Marino Grand Prix.

Martín took the championship lead at the Dutch GP and has remained at the top ever since. However, the 2024 MotoGP champion’s biggest advantage was 31 points, achieved immediately after the British GP.

Ahead of the San Marino and Rimini Riviera Grand Prix, Martín highlighted the importance of Aprilia’s home race and said he arrives at Misano with “clear objectives”.

“Misano GP is always special when you are with an Italian team, and together with Aprilia and the fans, I’m sure it will be a great weekend,” Martín said. “We are going to a track I like after doing a good job in Aragón, and we have clear objectives,” he added.

The Aprilia rider acknowledged that topping the standings matters to the team, but insisted that the position itself does not carry decisive weight with seven rounds still remaining.

“Leading the standings is important for the whole Aprilia team, but we have already seen that, because of the small differences, it is neither a priority nor a determining factor,” Martín said.

“We need to keep focusing on our work. I can’t wait to get on the RS-GP26 and do my best in Aprilia’s home race,” he concluded.

MotoGP returns from September 11-13 for the San Marino and Rimini Riviera Grand Prix at Misano, the 14th round of the 2026 season. GRANDE PRÊMIO will follow the full weekend schedule across all World Championship categories.
