Ai Ogura will miss this weekend’s San Marino Grand Prix and the Riviera di Rimini as the Trackhouse rider continues to recover from surgery on his left hand.
Ogura injured his left thumb in a motocross training crash in Japan following the British Grand Prix. The #79 underwent surgery and missed the Aragón round, although Trackhouse had initially hoped he would recover in time to return at Misano.
“Once again, for the second consecutive race weekend, the American team will head to the race without Ai Ogura,” Trackhouse announced.
“Despite surgery just before Aragón and the expectation that a week of rehabilitation for the injured left thumb — the result of a motocross training crash in Japan shortly after Silverstone — would allow him to ride at Misano, his latest medical assessment in Barcelona concluded that he is still not sufficiently recovered to ride. Therefore, he has withdrawn from the San Marino GP,” the team added.
Unlike at MotorLand, however, Trackhouse does not have a replacement rider available this time, leaving Raúl Fernández as the team’s only rider at Misano.
“Lorenzo Savadori — Aprilia’s test rider — who agreed at extremely short notice to replace Ogura in Aragón, is not available to ride this weekend in Misano, leaving the team with no option but to enter the San Marino round with Raúl Fernández alone,” Trackhouse concluded.
Ogura’s absence means the Japanese rider will miss his second consecutive MotoGP round while he completes his recovery. Trackhouse has not indicated when he will be fit to return to competition.
