The Canadian Superbike Championship (CSBK) suffered a major scare last weekend during a round held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. In the penultimate race of the meeting, Zoltan Frast and Alex Michel were involved in a violent crash while battling for third place, triggering a red flag that ultimately ended the session early and secured victory for champion Ben Young. Despite the severity of the impact, both riders suffered only minor injuries and remained conscious at the scene.
The duel for third position saw Frast’s BMW running just ahead of Michel’s Kawasaki. Michel made a move around the outside into Turn 8, where his rear wheel made contact with Frast’s bike. Frast then became tangled with his rival’s machine and, upon hitting the barrier, was violently thrown toward the catch fence.
The crash brought out an immediate red flag that later signaled the end of the race, crowning Young as the winner with David MacKay securing second place. The riders involved were conscious when transported from the crash site to the hospital; preliminary reports indicate a concussion for Frast and a fractured collarbone for Michel.
The event marked the conclusion of the season, which saw Young crowned champion after an utterly dominant campaign with Honda.
