Mart\u00edn initially remained close to the KTM before gradually losing contact and coming under pressure from Aprilia team-mate Marco Bezzecchi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mart\u00edn crossed the line 1.017s behind Acosta, with Bezzecchi only 0.192s further back. Speaking to <em>TNT Sports<\/em> after the race, the Spaniard said his optimism following Saturday\u2019s Sprint victory had been tempered by technical and tyre-management limitations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYeah, for sure, I\u2019m very happy,\u201d Mart\u00edn said when asked whether he could take satisfaction from finishing second. \u201cFor my team, I think we did a great job. We were back up to speed. After the win yesterday, for sure, I was optimistic for today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI started well, but then I had some issues with the fuel consumption. I knew Pedro was going to attack, 100%. Behind him, I was trying to save a bit more tyre and a bit more fuel, but even when I tried to attack at the end, I had nothing else.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEven Bezzecchi was almost able to make a move. I was completely on the limit in terms of pace. I\u2019m happy because the pace was good, but we need to understand a bit more about how to improve our package in these low-grip races.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mart\u00edn braked \u201clike an animal\u201d to deny Bezzecchi<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While Acosta moved beyond Mart\u00edn\u2019s reach, Bezzecchi closed rapidly during the final phase of the 28-lap race. The Italian remained directly behind his team-mate but could not complete an attack before the chequered flag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mart\u00edn explained that his braking performance was the only element preventing Bezzecchi from taking second.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLuckily, this weekend I was able to brake super late,\u201d he said. \u201cEven if he was close for the last six laps, I just braked like an animal. This was the only way I was able to defend from him because the rear tyre was destroyed and I couldn\u2019t make metres when I was opening the throttle.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt was really difficult, but we achieved second, and that was the maximum.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The result completed a productive Austrian weekend for Mart\u00edn. He claimed pole by 0.015s, <a href=\"https:\/\/grandepremio.com\/en\/motogp\/martin-wins-austrian-motogp-sprint-after-acosta-throws-away-commanding-lead\/\">recovered from eighth to win Saturday\u2019s Sprint<\/a> and finished ahead of both remaining championship rivals in the Grand Prix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mart\u00edn now leads Marc M\u00e1rquez by 12 points after the Ducati rider finished fifth. Bezzecchi remains third, 42 points behind his Aprilia team-mate, in the updated <a href=\"https:\/\/grandepremio.com\/en\/motogp\/martin-extends-motogp-lead-over-marquez-after-austrian-gp-as-aprilia-takes-control\/\">MotoGP championship standings<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mart\u00edn welcomes Acosta to MotoGP winners\u2019 circle<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mart\u00edn also praised Acosta after the 22-year-old finally secured his maiden full-distance MotoGP victory. The Aprilia rider recalled the emotion of his own first premier-class win and said Acosta\u2019s long wait would make the success more meaningful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou will have to ask Pedro, but for sure, you are above the clouds in that moment when you finally win,\u201d Mart\u00edn said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThank God, I did it a bit faster, because he waited so, so long. He is an amazing rider, and I think the wait was too long. But now the flavour \u2014 I don\u2019t know how to say it \u2014 will taste better for him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m happy for him. He is also working with Albert, my manager, so I\u2019m very happy for him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Acosta had reached the podium 15 times without winning a Grand Prix before his Austrian breakthrough. After Saturday\u2019s Sprint, he said his condition produced normal fatigue rather than the more concerning symptoms experienced one week earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Asked after Sunday\u2019s race whether he had made a decision about how to manage the problem, Mart\u00edn indicated that he expects to continue without interrupting his championship campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI think this is already done,\u201d he said. \u201cI feel much better than in Misano, so I think we can make it to the end of the year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m happy about that.
