Here’s when Formula 1 returns

No, there is no Formula 1 race this weekend, October 17–18, 2026. The championship is taking a scheduled weekend off following the Singapore Grand Prix, with the next round set for October 23–25 at Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas.

That means there will be no F1 practice, qualifying, sprint or Grand Prix sessions on Saturday or Sunday. The break separates the Singapore weekend, held on October 9–11, from the United States Grand Prix, which begins the next phase of the championship’s closing stretch.

The pause comes at an important point in the 2026 season. Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli leads the Drivers’ Championship by 102 points, while Max Verstappen has returned to winning form with consecutive victories in Malaysia and Singapore.

When is the next F1 race?

The next Formula 1 race is the United States Grand Prix on Sunday, October 25, at Circuit of The Americas. The Grand Prix begins at 15:00 local time in Austin (CDT), corresponding to 16:00 in New York and Toronto, 20:00 in the United Kingdom and 17:00 in Brasília.

For viewers in India, Australia and New Zealand, the race takes place on Monday, October 26, because of the time difference.

The weekend begins on Friday, October 23, with two free-practice sessions. A third practice session and qualifying follow on Saturday, before Sunday’s 56-lap Grand Prix.

Unlike the previous Singapore weekend, Austin will not feature a sprint race in 2026. The event follows the traditional format of three practice sessions, qualifying and the main race.

The full timetable, including times for the United States, United Kingdom, India, Australia and New Zealand, is available in GRANDE PRÊMIO’s United States Grand Prix schedule and viewing guide.

Why is Formula 1 not racing this weekend?

The October 17–18 weekend was left free on the 2026 Formula 1 calendar between Singapore and Austin. It is a scheduled gap, rather than a race cancellation or a last-minute change.

Singapore hosted the previous round on October 11, when Verstappen secured his first victory at Marina Bay. The result completed a remarkable turnaround for Red Bull, which had struggled during the opening months of the season.

The championship will resume with three consecutive race weekends in the Americas: the United States Grand Prix on October 25, the Mexican Grand Prix on November 1 and the São Paulo Grand Prix on November 8.

That sequence makes the current weekend the final scheduled pause before a demanding run of three consecutive Grands Prix.

What is at stake when F1 returns in Austin?

Antonelli could secure his first Formula 1 world championship in Austin, although the Mercedes driver needs a favourable combination of results to make his advantage mathematically unassailable.

The Italian arrives with 340 points, compared with 238 for teammate George Russell. Lewis Hamilton has 229 points and Verstappen 221, leaving the Red Bull driver 119 points behind the championship leader.

The title permutations have already been examined in GRANDE PRÊMIO’s guide to the next F1 race after Singapore.

Verstappen, meanwhile, will attempt to claim a third consecutive Grand Prix victory after winning in Malaysia and Singapore. Red Bull’s improvement has made the final races particularly important for assessing the team’s development ahead of 2027.

McLaren also faces a crucial weekend as it prepares further updates to defend its position in the Constructors’ Championship, while Ferrari hopes to build on Charles Leclerc’s second place in Singapore.

Mercedes in Austin (Photo: F1)

Is there F1 qualifying or a sprint this Saturday?

No. There are no Formula 1 championship sessions scheduled for Saturday, October 17, or Sunday, October 18.

The next qualifying session takes place on Saturday, October 24, at 16:00 in Austin, which corresponds to 22:00 BST in the United Kingdom and 17:00 EDT in New York.

The United States Grand Prix starts the following day, October 25, at 15:00 local time.

GRANDE PRÊMIO will cover the preparations, qualifying, starting grid and race in Austin, with the latest developments available through its Formula 1 coverage.

Formula 1 fans face a weekend without a Grand Prix after Singapore, but the championship returns to Austin on October 23–25 with Kimi Antonelli closing in on the title and Max Verstappen back in winning form.

{"42wp_featured_image_caption":"Max Verstappen ","42wp_featured_image_credits":"Red Bull Content Pool","42wp_featured_video":"","42wp_ai_content_disclaimer":"","42wp_is_ai_content":false,"42wp_featured_image_hidden":false,"42wp_authors_list":
"42wp_breaking_news":false
5
806,325,114,718],"42wp_author":[7
post-4086","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-f1","tag-austin","tag-f1-2026","tag-f1-schedule","tag-united-states-gp","42wp_author-victor-martins
["GET
