Volkswagen Group has pushed back against claims made by Italian investment firm Patritalia, which stated it was \u201cfully prepared\u201d to acquire ownership of Ducati. VW underscored that the Borgo Panigale manufacturer remains highly profitable, and while acknowledging a routine portfolio review, insisted it has received no purchase offers from investors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rumors surrounding a potential sale of Ducati by Volkswagen have circulated for several months. Recently, in an interview with British publication MCNews<\/em>, Claudio Domenicali, CEO of the motorcycle brand, noted that a sale isn’t beyond the realm of possibility, but clarified that no deal is currently underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It\u2019s not something that\u2019s entirely impossible, but in reality, there is nothing taking place in Borgo Panigale at the moment,” Domenicali stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Massimo Ros, founder of Patritalia S.p.A., told American magazine RideApart<\/em> that a formal acquisition bid had been submitted to the Volkswagen Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I can confirm that the rumors are grounded in fact,” Ros said. “Patritalia S.p.A. has formally expressed its interest and is fully prepared to acquire 100% of Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A.,” he continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ros, who has previously been spotted at MotoGP events alongside Ducati personnel, stated that his goal is “to bring back home iconic Italian companies and brands currently under foreign ownership, returning them to Italian control.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the same publication reported that a Volkswagen spokesperson denied the existence of any formal buyout proposal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Ducati is an exceptionally successful company operating from a position of immense strength,” the spokesperson began. “The brand boasts a modern, highly competitive product lineup, consistently achieves outstanding results in comparative tests, enjoys remarkable customer satisfaction and recommendation rates, and relies on an extraordinarily loyal community,” the statement continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Furthermore, Ducati continues to secure major international racing victories, both in MotoGP and in World Superbike,” the spokesperson highlighted. “As it does with all holdings, the Volkswagen Group regularly reviews its business portfolio. Under our Target Picture strategy, the Group places primary focus on core automotive operations. In this context, we continuously evaluate how investments can best contribute to overall Group success,” he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“That process naturally includes assessing which ownership structure generates the highest long-term value for each company. I am not aware of any offer submitted to the Group. Beyond that, we do not comment on market speculation or rumors,” he concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
