Key takeaways

Yamaha enters the Aragon Grand Prix fully aware of the track’s historically difficult relationship with the YZR-M1. However, Team Director Massimo Meregalli believes that MotorLand Aragon provides a vital opportunity for the Iwata manufacturer to evaluate its technical development during a transitional 2026 MotoGP season.

Following a major departure from its traditional inline-four setup to an all-new V4 engine architecture, Yamaha continues its learning curve. The team currently sits last in the Constructors’ World Championship with 73 points, trailing leaders Aprilia by 294 points.

“After a two-week break, everyone is eager to get back to work,” Meregalli noted ahead of the weekend. “The British Grand Prix was a challenging weekend for us, but now our focus is on applying those learnings in Aragon. MotorLand is a demanding circuit that traditionally does not suit our strengths, but it is also a great place to evaluate the progress we have made throughout the year and review our next targets.

“We know we still have work ahead of us, and we will approach this weekend with a realistic mindset and the determination to achieve the best possible result,” Meregalli added.

Yamaha’s technical rebuild comes amid wider paddock movements, as Fermín Aldeguer signed a two-year factory Ducati deal with VR46 and Tech3 confirmed Luca Marini’s arrival for the 2027 season. Meanwhile, championship leader Jorge Martín prepares for his Aragon debut with Aprilia.

The Aragon Grand Prix takes place from August 28–30, marking the 13th round of the 2026 MotoGP season. GRANDE PRÊMIO provides full live coverage of every session across all World Championship classes. Follow all updates on our news page.
