Key takeaways

Pirelli has taken another step in its preparations for its official entry as MotoGP’s sole tire supplier in 2027 by introducing a Formula 1-style color identification system during tests at the Aragon Grand Prix.

The Italian manufacturer delivered 400 prototype tires to the MotorLand Aragón paddock this weekend. According to Motorsport Spain, each slick, intermediate, and rain compound now features a distinct color band on the sidewall, aligning the MotoGP evaluation process with the visual standards used in F1.

The supply at MotorLand Aragón is restricted to factory manufacturers, who have been leading the initial development phase through private tests and the post-race official test at Brno, in Czechia.

The next collective evaluation open to satellite structures is scheduled for September 21 in Austria, where independent teams will receive test allocation through their respective factories. The entire MotoGP grid will gain full access to the finalized 2027 catalog during the traditional post-season test in Valencia on November 20.

Pirelli has served as the exclusive tire supplier for Moto2 and Moto3 since 2024 and was officially confirmed in March 2025 to replace Michelin in the premier class starting in 2027. The tire transition coincides with MotoGP’s major technical reset for 2027, which includes reducing engine displacement from 1000cc to 850cc.

Pirelli’s testing update arrives during a busy weekend at MotorLand Aragón, following Marco Bezzecchi setting a new lap record to lead Friday practice, Johann Zarco securing direct Q2 entry in his comeback from injury, and Jorge Martín dismissing pressure over his title fight against Marc Márquez.

MotoGP track action continues from August 28–30 for the Aragon Grand Prix, the 13th round of the 2026 season. GRANDE PRÊMIO provides complete live coverage of every session across all categories. Follow all updates on our news page.
