Ferrari made a major step in the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship title fight at the Lone Star Le Mans, with the #50 499P taking victory at Circuit of The Americas and the problems suffered by Toyota and BMW helping the Italian manufacturer close the gap in the standings.

Miguel Molina, Nicklas Nielsen and Antonio Fuoco secured Ferrari’s first overall win of the season after Toyota #7 suffered a hydraulic failure with only 10 minutes remaining. The result gave Ferrari 26 points in Austin, including the bonus point for pole position scored by the sister #51, and lifted the manufacturer to 114 points.

Toyota remains in control of the manufacturers’ championship with 140 points, but the Japanese marque added only eight in Texas. BMW is second on 131, after scoring four points, while Ferrari has now reduced the gap to BMW to 17 points.

The result was particularly significant because Ferrari arrived in Austin third in the championship, 44 points behind Toyota and 39 behind BMW. The strong weekend therefore transformed the shape of the title battle with three rounds still remaining.

Rast and Frijns remain tied with Toyota #7

The drivers’ championship remains just as close.

René Rast and Robin Frijns continue to lead with 75 points for BMW #20, but they are tied with Kamui Kobayashi, Mike Conway and Nyck de Vries, who also have 75 for Toyota #7. The BMW pairing retains first place on the tiebreaker.

Toyota #7 looked set to take control of the title fight in Austin. The car had built a lead of around six seconds over Ferrari #50 before de Vries was forced to retire with the hydraulic problem in the closing minutes, handing the victory to the Italian crew.

Sheldon van der Linde remains third with 65 points, while Ferrari #51’s Alessandro Pier Guidi, Antonio Giovinazzi and James Calado sit fourth with 57.

The #8 Toyota crew of Brendon Hartley, Ryō Hirakawa and Sébastien Buemi is fifth on 56, followed by BMW #15’s Kevin Magnussen and Raffaele Marciello on 50.

Ferrari #50’s winning crew has moved to seventh with 54 points, level with the BMW #15 pairing in the wider championship picture after its first victory of the campaign.

Derani scores again as Genesis continues to build

Pipo Derani also added more points at COTA after finishing eighth in Genesis #17 alongside André Lotterer and Mathys Jaubert.

The Brazilian, Lotterer and Jaubert now have 10 points and share 17th place in the Hypercar drivers’ standings. Genesis scored its second consecutive top-eight result after showing competitive pace throughout the Austin weekend.

Augusto Farfus, meanwhile, remains 18th in the LMGT3 drivers’ standings alongside Darren Leung and Sean Gelael, with 22 points.

Corvette retains LMGT3 lead despite Austin zero

The LMGT3 title fight remains led by Corvette #33, despite Jonny Edgar, Nicky Catsburg and Ben Keating failing to score in Austin.

Edgar leads the drivers’ standings with 76 points, four ahead of Catsburg and 22 ahead of Keating. The #33 crew therefore remains in control heading into the final three rounds.

Ferrari #21’s Alessio Rovera, François Hériau and Simon Mann are fourth on 54, while Porsche #92’s Richard Lietz, Riccardo Pera and Yasser Shahin are fifth on 49.

Aston Martin enjoyed a strong weekend at COTA, with the #23 of Gray Newell, Jonny Adam and Dudu Barrichello finishing third. The result moved Newell and Adam to sixth in the drivers’ standings on 49 points, while Barrichello is eighth on 46.

In the LMGT3 teams’ standings, however, the #23 is fourth on 33 points, behind Corvette #33, Porsche #92 and BMW #69. The podium was particularly valuable because Barrichello had missed the previous WEC round in São Paulo due to his IMSA commitments.
