In addition to announcing Leonardo Fornaroli’s participation in FP1, McLaren announced that it will introduce an upgrade package for this weekend’s Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix. One of the main additions is testing the “Macarena” rear wing, which, after repeated delays, will finally hit the track.

The Woking-based outfit will also bring a new floor and other aerodynamic parts to be tested during free practice. The rear wing experiment will take place in FP1, but there is still no schedule for its permanent introduction, which could happen as early as Hungary or in August at the Dutch GP.

According to McLaren, since braking and cornering performance are key high-downforce areas—as is the case at the Hungaroring and Zandvoort—the update package aims to raise the level of performance at similar tracks.

“As always this season, we will also be focused on maximizing the energy deployment of our power unit throughout the lap and understanding how the revised overtaking characteristics influence strategy. We will also have an update package arriving this weekend; in such a competitive season, every evolution counts, so it will be great to gain a better understanding of how these parts perform during free practice. Our goal is to make the most of all available resources, carry this momentum into the summer break, and put ourselves in the best possible position for the second half of the championship,” stated Randy Singh, McLaren’s Senior Director.

Formula 1 returns July 24–26 in Budapest, home of the Hungarian GP, Round 11 of the 2026 season.
