News Summary

Monaco is set to host its first Formula 1 Sprint weekend in 2027, according to a programme prepared for publication by Grand Prix organiser Automobile Club de Monaco, GRANDE PRÊMIO has learned.

The schedule, which has been prepared for publication on the ACM website, lists Sprint Qualifying for Friday, June 4, following the weekend’s only F1 free practice session. An F1 Sprint is scheduled for Saturday, June 5, before the traditional Q1, Q2 and Q3 qualifying session determines the grid for Sunday’s Monaco GP.

Formula 1 and the FIA have not yet formally announced which circuits will host Sprint events in 2027, making Monaco’s programme the first clear indication that the Principality is part of the championship’s plans for an expanded Sprint calendar.

The proposed format follows the established Sprint structure: FP1 and Sprint Qualifying on Friday, the Sprint and Grand Prix qualifying on Saturday, followed by the main race on Sunday.

Monaco has never hosted an F1 Sprint since the format was introduced in 2021. Its inclusion would be particularly significant because overtaking around the narrow street circuit has become one of Formula 1’s recurring concerns, prompting attempts in recent seasons to make the Grand Prix less dependent on track position.

The ACM has separately confirmed that the 2027 Monaco GP is scheduled for June 3–6 and will open the European leg of the championship. Those dates remain subject to approval by the FIA World Motor Sport Council.

Formula 1 is already preparing to expand the Sprint concept beyond the six weekends used in 2026. This year’s Sprint calendar features Shanghai, Miami, Montréal, Silverstone, Zandvoort and Singapore, but the championship has yet to reveal how many events will use the format next season or where they will take place.

If the ACM programme is confirmed by F1 and the FIA, Monaco will therefore become one of the new additions to that expanded 2027 schedule — and will stage a competitive F1 race on Saturday for the first time.
