Fortescue Zero Racing has confirmed Taylor Barnard as its first driver for the 2026/27 Formula E World Championship, securing one of the category’s leading young talents ahead of its debut in the new GEN4 era.
The 22-year-old British driver joins the Australian operation after his breakthrough campaign with DS Penske, during which he became the youngest race winner in the history of the electric single-seater championship.
Barnard has established several age-related records since making his Formula E debut in Monaco in 2024, initially replacing Sam Bird at short notice.
He subsequently became the championship’s youngest pole-sitter, podium finisher and points scorer before adding the youngest race-winner record.
Barnard begins new chapter after DS Penske departure
Barnard arrives at Fortescue Zero with 36 Formula E starts, six podium finishes, two pole positions and one victory, giving the new team a driver with proven experience despite his age.
“I’m incredibly excited to join Fortescue Zero Racing and be part of building something from the ground up,” Barnard said in the team’s announcement.
The signing follows the conclusion of his time with DS Penske at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
Fortescue Zero enters Formula E with a background in advanced engineering and electrification, including its previous association with Williams Advanced Engineering.
The company also serves as an official supplier of Formula E’s PIT BOOST technology, giving it an existing technical relationship with the championship.
GEN4 era begins with new team and driver line-up
The 2026/27 season marks the introduction of Formula E’s GEN4 regulations, bringing a new generation of electric racing machinery to the championship.
Fortescue Zero will enter during this technical transition, with Barnard becoming the first confirmed member of its race-driver line-up.
The team has not yet announced the identity of its second driver.
Barnard’s signing adds another confirmed name to the Formula E driver market ahead of the championship’s next season.
