News Summary

Aprilia achieved an unprecedented result in the 2026 MotoGP World Championship on Sunday, October 11, taking all four leading positions at the Indonesian Grand Prix as Ducati struggled to match the Italian manufacturer’s pace at Mandalika.

Marco Bezzecchi won the 27-lap race ahead of Raúl Fernández, Jorge Martín and Ai Ogura, giving Aprilia its first-ever 1-2-3-4 finish in the premier class. The result was particularly significant because the four motorcycles were split equally between the factory Aprilia Racing team and the independent Trackhouse operation.

Ducati, meanwhile, failed to reach the podium. Marc Márquez finished sixth, 10.778s behind Bezzecchi, while Francesco Bagnaia retired. The outcome allowed Aprilia to regain the Constructors’ Championship lead and Martín to move back ahead of Márquez in the riders’ standings.

The achievement came less than 24 hours after Aprilia’s hopes of dominating the Indonesian sprint had collapsed at the opening corner.

Fernández and Bezzecchi had started Saturday’s shorter race from the front row but collided at Turn 1, eliminating both riders. The accident left Fernández with two fractured fingers and prompted criticism of Bezzecchi’s riding.

Márquez went on to win the sprint ahead of Ogura, while Martín finished fourth after encountering a front tyre-pressure problem.

Sunday’s Grand Prix produced a complete reversal.

Fernández started from pole again and led the opening 18 laps, despite having to adjust his braking technique because of his injuries. Bezzecchi remained close behind before completing the decisive overtake at Turn 1 on lap 19.

Once ahead, Bezzecchi pulled away to win by 4.260s, securing his fifth Grand Prix victory of the season and his first since Mugello.

Fernández held on to second, with Martín third. Ogura completed the historic result by overtaking the riders ahead of him during the second half of the race and resisting Pedro Acosta’s challenge in the closing stages.

Factory Aprilia and Trackhouse combine for historic 1-2-3-4

The four leading finishers represented both Aprilia teams, demonstrating the competitiveness of the RS-GP26 across the factory and satellite operations.

The result gave Aprilia Racing 41 points in the Teams’ Championship from Sunday’s race, with Bezzecchi collecting 25 and Martín 16.

Trackhouse added another 33 points, thanks to Fernández’s second place and Ogura’s fourth.

Fernández’s performance was especially notable after the injuries sustained during the sprint. The Spaniard revealed that he had concealed the second fracture and needed to change how he operated the front brake to complete the race.

GRANDE PRÊMIO detailed Fernández’s recovery and second-place finish despite two broken fingers.

Aprilia’s result was also part of a broader run of competitiveness at Mandalika. On Friday, Fernández, Bezzecchi and Martín had occupied the first three positions in Practice, with Fernández setting a new circuit lap record.

The manufacturer subsequently secured the first two starting positions for Saturday’s sprint and Sunday’s Grand Prix.

Ducati fails to reach podium as Márquez loses championship lead

Ducati entered Sunday’s race with Márquez holding a four-point advantage over Martín following his sprint victory.

However, the reigning world champion struggled to match the leading Aprilias over the longer Grand Prix distance.

Márquez briefly ran third during the opening stages but lost ground as Martín recovered positions and Acosta began challenging him. Ogura also moved ahead during the second half of the race, leaving the Ducati rider sixth.

Márquez finished 10.778s behind Bezzecchi, collecting ten championship points compared with Martín’s 16.

Bagnaia endured an even more difficult afternoon, retiring without scoring. Álex Márquez was Ducati’s next-best finisher in seventh, followed by Fabio Di Giannantonio in eighth.

It was a marked contrast to Saturday, when Márquez had won the sprint and Ducati briefly moved ahead of Aprilia in the Constructors’ Championship.

The six-point swing between Martín and Márquez also produced the eighth change of championship leader in 2026, with Martín returning to first place on 355 points against Márquez’s 353.

Aprilia overtakes Ducati in Constructors’ Championship

Aprilia’s historic finish also changed the order in the Manufacturers’ Championship.

Only the highest-scoring rider from each manufacturer contributes to its constructors’ total in each race. Bezzecchi’s victory therefore added 25 points for Aprilia, while Márquez’s sixth place earned ten for Ducati.

The 15-point swing overturned Ducati’s three-point advantage after Saturday’s sprint.
