News Summary

Marc Márquez moved closer to his eighth premier-class MotoGP world championship after winning Sunday’s (November 1) Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang, extending his advantage over Jorge Martín to 44 points with three rounds remaining. The Ducati rider now has 399 points, while his injured Aprilia rival remains on 355 after missing both the sprint and the main race.

The result also changed the battle between manufacturers. Ducati reclaimed the lead of the Constructors’ Championship from Aprilia, opening an eight-point advantage, although the Italian manufacturer continues to trail Aprilia Racing in the Teams’ standings.

Márquez extends championship lead as Martín misses Malaysia

Márquez arrived at Sepang ten points ahead of Martín after the Australian Grand Prix weekend, where the Aprilia rider fractured his right arm during the sprint.

The Ducati rider finished second behind Pedro Acosta in Saturday’s Malaysian sprint, increasing his advantage to 19 points, before winning Sunday’s Grand Prix ahead of Acosta and Álex Márquez.

His victory added another 25 points, taking the championship lead to 44 points.

Marco Bezzecchi remains third with 332 points after finishing sixth in Malaysia, while Acosta strengthened his fourth position with 295 points. Ai Ogura completes the top five on 278.

Fabio Di Giannantonio, Raúl Fernández, Álex Márquez, Francesco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini complete the championship’s top ten.

Ducati moves eight points clear of Aprilia among constructors

The Constructors’ Championship remains considerably closer than the teams’ contest.

Ducati now leads Aprilia by just eight points, having reached 537 following Márquez’s victory at Sepang.

Aprilia is second with 529, reflecting its strong performances across the factory team and Trackhouse.

KTM remains third on 348 points, with Acosta’s sprint victory and second place in Sunday’s race strengthening the Austrian manufacturer’s position.

Honda occupies fourth with 178, while Yamaha completes the standings on 105.

Unlike the Teams’ Championship, which combines the points scored by riders representing each team, the Constructors’ Championship awards points based on the best eligible finishing motorcycle from each manufacturer in the relevant races.

The narrow difference between Ducati and Aprilia means the battle for the manufacturers’ title remains open heading into the final three rounds.

What does Marc Márquez need to win the MotoGP title in Qatar?

Márquez will have his first mathematical opportunity to secure the 2026 Riders’ Championship at the Qatar Grand Prix, scheduled for November 6–8.

There are 111 points still available across the three remaining weekends, combining 25 points for each Grand Prix victory and 12 for each sprint win.

After Qatar, a maximum of 74 points will remain available in Portugal and Valencia.

Márquez therefore needs to establish a sufficiently large advantage over both Martín and Bezzecchi to make the championship mathematically secure.

A 74-point lead over Martín would be sufficient on countback, given Márquez’s advantage in Grand Prix victories. Against Bezzecchi, the required margin could be 75 points depending on their results and the eventual victories count.

The Ducati rider enters Qatar with 399 points, ahead of Martín on 355 and Bezzecchi on 332.

Martín’s participation remains uncertain after Aprilia confirmed that his injury prevented him from braking safely at Sepang.

The Qatar event also remains under scrutiny because of regional security concerns, although organisers have maintained their intention to proceed.
