The WEC returns to the track on Saturday (5) for FP3 at 1:00 p.m. local time in Austin, ahead of qualifying later in the day. How Lone Star Le Mans FP2 unfolded
The session was interrupted by a red flag almost immediately after a brief yellow flag at Turn 2 following an off for the #17 Genesis of Mathys Jaubert. FP2 resumed just 7 minutes later without further major interruptions.
In the opening laps, Mathieu Jaminet set the early pace with a 1:55.936 in the #19 Genesis. As the times quickly improved, however, Harry Tincknell moved to the top with the #007 Aston Martin, posting a 1:53.108 before the end of the opening 30 minutes.
In LMGT3, Rui Andrade put the #61 Iron Lynx Mercedes at the top with a 2:06.023. Ian James in the #27 Aston Martin and Hadrien David in the #78 Lexus completed the top 3 with an hour remaining.
Ten minutes later, Mercedes secured a 1-2 in the class when Lin Hodenius moved the #79 into second place.
In Hypercar, the #17 Genesis recovered from Jaubert’s early off-track moment and climbed to third, behind António Félix da Costa’s #35 Alpine.
The final part of the session produced few significant changes, as teams and drivers increasingly focused on race simulations and long-run data. The #007 Aston Martin therefore retained the lead in Hypercar, while the #61 Mercedes lost the top spot in LMGT3 to the #27 Aston Martin.
