Charles Leclerc revealed that he briefly experienced a vision problem in his right eye immediately after his heavy crash during the Italian Grand Prix at Monza on Sunday.

The Ferrari driver lost control of his car at the Parabolica while running near the front of the field, hitting the barriers heavily and triggering a red flag after the impact damaged the tyre barrier.

Speaking shortly after the accident, Leclerc explained that his main concern when climbing out of the Ferrari was his vision.

“It was just my vision a little bit at first, the right eye was not showing me great vision. But now it’s all good,” Leclerc said.

“That’s the thing I was most worried of getting out of the car.”

Leclerc was taken to the medical centre for precautionary checks following the accident. Ferrari subsequently confirmed that the Monegasque was OK.

The Ferrari driver also acknowledged that he was experiencing some pain following the impact, although he did not report any other significant problem.

“Then, after that, everything a bit of pain here and there, which is normal after a crash like this. So nothing more,” he added.

Leclerc’s accident brought his Italian Grand Prix to an early end and caused the second red flag at Monza in the 21st century. The only previous stoppage in that period also involved Leclerc, who crashed at the Parabolica during the 2020 Italian GP.

The 2026 incident was Leclerc’s second retirement of the season after his crash at the Monaco Grand Prix.

Despite the heavy impact, Leclerc was able to leave the car without assistance and later provided a reassuring update on his condition.

For Ferrari, however, the accident brought a premature end to Leclerc’s home race after he had started third on the grid.
