MotoGP confirmed on Friday (July 31) that the Thai Grand Prix will kick off the 2027 season, ushering in the new technical regulations featuring 850cc machinery. The event is scheduled for March 5–7 at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, serving as the inaugural race under the rulebook spanning the 2027–2031 cycle.
This marks the third straight year that Thailand will host the championship opener, solidifying the Southeast Asian nation’s prominent role on the Grand Prix calendar.
Buriram has established itself as one of the most popular fixtures on the MotoGP tour. At the 2026 season opener, Marco Bezzecchi claimed victory for Aprilia in front of a record-breaking weekend crowd of 228,228 spectators—a result that underscored the strength of the Thai market for the series.
“Hosting the MotoGP season opener for a third consecutive year is a testament to the exceptional partnership we’ve built in Thailand and the incredible passion of the fans. Buriram has consistently delivered one of the premier events on our calendar, making it the perfect venue to launch MotoGP’s new technical era,” said Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group.

“The first race under the 2027 regulations will mark the start of an exciting new chapter for our sport, and we are thrilled to begin that journey in Thailand,” the executive concluded.
MotoGP is currently on its summer break and will return to action from August 7 to 9 with the British Grand Prix, the 12th round of the 2026 season.
