Aprilia’s historic domination of the Indonesian Grand Prix, Jorge Martín’s return to the top of the MotoGP championship and Marc Márquez’s damage-limitation ride dominated the headlines on Sunday (11 October), as the 2026 season completed its 17th round at Mandalika.
Marco Bezzecchi claimed his fifth Grand Prix victory of the year, leading Raúl Fernández, Martín and Ai Ogura across the finish line in an unprecedented 1-2-3-4 result for Aprilia. Ducati, meanwhile, failed to reach the podium, with Márquez sixth and Francesco Bagnaia retiring.
The result changed both the Riders’ and Constructors’ Championship standings. Martín now leads Márquez by just two points, 355 to 353, while Aprilia has moved 12 points ahead of Ducati in the manufacturers’ competition.
Here are the main developments from Sunday’s Indonesian Grand Prix and the latest MotoGP reporting from GRANDE PRÊMIO.
Bezzecchi wins in Indonesia as Aprilia completes historic top-four sweep
Marco Bezzecchi recovered from Saturday’s sprint disaster to win the Indonesian Grand Prix, ending a victory drought that had lasted since Mugello in May.
The Italian spent much of Sunday’s 27-lap race pursuing Raúl Fernández, who had started from pole position and controlled the opening 18 laps. Bezzecchi finally overtook the Trackhouse rider at Turn 1 on lap 19 and quickly established a decisive advantage.
He crossed the finish line 4.260 seconds ahead of Fernández, with Martín third and Ogura fourth. It was also the 300th premier-class Grand Prix victory by an Italian rider.
The result was particularly remarkable because Bezzecchi and Fernández had collided at the first corner of Saturday’s sprint, eliminating both riders and leaving the Spaniard injured.
Martín retakes MotoGP championship lead by just two points
Jorge Martín reclaimed first place in the 2026 MotoGP standings after finishing third at Mandalika, reversing the championship change that had occurred during Saturday’s sprint.
Márquez arrived in Indonesia two points behind Martín but moved four points ahead by winning the shorter race while the Aprilia rider finished fourth.
Sunday produced another reversal. Martín collected 16 points for third place, while Márquez earned ten for sixth, creating a six-point swing in the standings.
The result leaves Martín on 355 points and Márquez on 353, with Bezzecchi third on 309. It was the eighth change of championship leader this season.
The championship remains exceptionally close, with five rounds left and neither leading rider able to afford a major setback.

Márquez survives Aprilia domination at his most difficult circuit
Although Márquez lost the championship lead, his Indonesian weekend was not necessarily a major setback in the wider title fight.
Mandalika has historically been one of the Spaniard’s least successful circuits, and Aprilia demonstrated superior pace throughout the weekend. Márquez nevertheless won Saturday’s sprint and limited his losses by finishing sixth on Sunday.
He ended the weekend exactly two points behind Martín, the same deficit he had carried into Indonesia before the sprint.
The Ducati rider struggled to match the leading Aprilias during the Grand Prix and eventually finished 10.778 seconds behind Bezzecchi. However, he avoided the kind of costly mistake that could have created a much larger championship deficit.
As GRANDE PRÊMIO examined in its analysis of Márquez’s Indonesian performance, the Spaniard leaves a difficult venue still firmly in contention for the championship.

Fernández finishes second despite racing with two broken fingers
Raúl Fernández produced one of the most remarkable performances of the Indonesian weekend, finishing second despite suffering two fractured fingers in Saturday’s collision with Bezzecchi.
The Trackhouse rider initially disclosed only one fracture but later revealed that a second finger had also been injured.
The damage affected the hand he normally uses to operate the front brake, forcing him to adapt his braking technique before Sunday’s race.
Despite the pain, Fernández started from pole position, led the opening 18 laps and held second place after Bezzecchi overtook him.
His performance helped Aprilia secure its historic top-four finish and strengthened his position in the Riders’ Championship.
Fernández explained how he managed to race with two broken fingers and finish second at Mandalika.
Ducati loses Constructors’ Championship lead to Aprilia
Aprilia’s domination extended beyond the race result, with the Italian manufacturer overtaking Ducati in the Constructors’ Championship.
Bezzecchi’s victory earned Aprilia 25 manufacturers’ points, while Márquez’s sixth place contributed ten for Ducati.
The 15-point swing overturned Ducati’s three-point advantage after Saturday’s sprint, leaving Aprilia ahead by 503 points to 491.
Aprilia also strengthened its lead in the Teams’ Championship. The factory squad reached 664 points, 145 ahead of Ducati Lenovo, while Trackhouse moved to 495.
Ducati’s difficult Sunday included Bagnaia’s retirement, while Álex Márquez finished seventh and Fabio Di Giannantonio eighth.
