Pedro Acosta had already escaped at the front and held an advantage of more than 2s. The KTM rider then crashed at Turn 2 with three laps remaining, handing the lead and championship initiative to Martín.

Marco Bezzecchi completed the Sprint podium and remains third in the MotoGP standings. The additional 7 points took him to 248, although Martín’s victory increased his deficit to 38 points.

Raúl Fernández is seventh with 199 points. Álex Márquez strengthened his hold on eighth by finishing fifth in the Sprint, taking his total to 158.

Francesco Bagnaia scored his first points since July’s German GP by finishing sixth. The Ducati rider remains ninth in the standings with 147 points, 11 behind Álex Márquez and 40 ahead of Fermín Aldeguer.

Brad Binder claimed the final Sprint point in ninth and moved to 84 points. He remains 13th in the championship, behind Luca Marini and Enea Bastianini.

The Austrian Grand Prix remains capable of changing the championship order again, with 25 points available to Sunday’s winner. Martín will start from pole ahead of Márquez and Acosta, with the race beginning at 13:00 UK time.
