Charles Leclerc voiced frustration over Ferrari’s pit strategy following his 5th-place finish at the 2026 Dutch Grand Prix, arguing that an early second pit stop compromised his ability to challenge Mercedes for a podium place.

The Monegasque driver spent the opening stint trailing George Russell in search of an overtake. However, when Russell pitted for hard tires, Ferrari brought Leclerc in shortly afterward on Lap 42. Leclerc believed staying out longer to build a fresh-tire delta for the final laps would have yielded a better result.

“We need to talk about that kind of choice. I want to analyze the second stop more closely when we were tracking George,” Leclerc explained. “For me, it was very important to have a tire advantage over Mercedes to have more pace at the end, but we couldn’t do that. I need to review how the situation was, but I was happy to stay out longer.”

Regarding the mid-race friction with teammate Lewis Hamilton—who grew impatient behind Leclerc while running on a different stint lifecycle—the #16 driver clarified that no team orders were issued.

“I didn’t receive any message about that. In the end, I was just focused on my pace and trying to give my best,” Leclerc noted. “Sometimes it’s a team game. Lewis was very strong in the second stint, but that’s how it goes. Sometimes I will be frustrated, sometimes Lewis will be frustrated.”
