IndyCar has officially confirmed the opening date for its 2027 season. True to tradition, the championship will begin on the street circuit of St. Petersburg, Florida, with the race scheduled for March 7. As was the case in 2026, the series will share the paddock with the NASCAR Truck Series, which will also compete on the street track.

The St. Pete Grand Prix debuted on the IndyCar calendar in 2003 during the Champ Car era. It transitioned to the Indy Racing League (IRL) in 2005, becoming the calendar’s first-ever non-oval race. Since 2009, with the exceptions of 2010 and 2020, it has served as the traditional season opener.

“The 2026 event was our best one yet. The crowd was massive across all three days. We’re looking forward to welcoming fans back for the 23rd annual Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg weekend,” said Kim Green, co-owner, chairman, and CEO of Green Savoree Racing Promotions, the event’s organizer.

The 2026 race in St. Pete was won by Spain’s Álex Palou for Chip Ganassi Racing, while Layne Riggs took victory in the Truck Series event. Ticket sales for the 2027 edition will open in the coming weeks.

The remainder of the 2027 IndyCar calendar has yet to be announced. Full confirmation is expected in the weeks leading up to the end of the current season, which concludes on September 6 at Laguna Seca.
