What remains open at Mercedes?
Mercedes has yet to issue a conventional announcement confirming its full 2027 line-up. Team principal Toto Wolff has said that an agreement with Russell was reached earlier, although it had not been formally announced. Antonelli, the current championship leader, is expected to continue alongside him.
That makes Mercedes different from Haas and Racing Bulls. Its two seats are unannounced in the formal count, but the team has given no indication that it intends to replace either current driver. The outstanding step is confirmation of the pairing, rather than an apparent contest between new candidates.
Haas has the most consequential decision
Haas has not finalised either place in a 2027 announcement. Bearman is expected to stay, while Esteban Ocon described himself as a free agent during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend. Team principal Ayao Komatsu said the team had not made its decision and that keeping Ocon remained an option.
Rafael Câmara, Leonardo Fornaroli, Ryō Hirakawa and Jack Doohan have all been evaluated by Haas. Komatsu said the team would review its findings internally and discuss them with owner Gene Haas before deciding. A choice had not been announced as of 29 September, so none of the candidates should be entered in the grid as a confirmed driver.
For Câmara, that leaves a possible route into Formula 1. The Ferrari-backed Brazilian has tested machinery connected to both Ferrari and Haas, but the outcome depends on the American team’s selection.
Racing Bulls has two drivers to name
Racing Bulls has also not announced its 2027 pairing. Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad are its current drivers, with Lawson having strengthened his case during his temporary spell at Red Bull while Hadjar was injured. Nikola Tsolov remains another option from the Red Bull junior programme.
The team could keep both incumbents, change one driver or make a broader adjustment. Until Red Bull confirms its decision, the two Racing Bulls entries remain open in the provisional grid.
Alonso’s renewal removes Aston Martin from that group of unresolved teams. In the announcement of Alonso and Stroll’s extensions, the Spaniard said he had taken time over his decision but still believed he had the speed and determination to compete at the highest level.
